Abstract:
Technological entrepreneurship is usually linked to both firm and economic growth, so there is abundant literature that analyzes the determinants of entrepreneurship. However, this is insufficient if we focus on technology base companies and even less if we contextualize for economies in transition. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify individual and regional determinants including venture capital, for the creation of New Technology-Based Firms (NTBF) in South America. We found that the gender, educational level and age have a significative effect on technological entrepreneurship while regional investment in R&D and venture capital level do not show significant effects.
Keywords: Entrepreneurs, technology entrepreneurship, individual determinants, regional determinants, venture capital, South America.
